Discussion! Leia/R2-D2? - Or - Slash is Great, Guys.

Now that the semester is all but over, I think now’s the time to ask the fun questions. Out of all of the things that we’ve read for this class, what’s your favorite slash pairing, why is it your favorite, and what kind of pairing is it? I think my favorite kind of pairing is the “Superbro” kind of pairing mentioned by Iris, but I’m still not sure what character pairing is actually my favorite. I think I would enjoy reading a Superbro story for say, Leia and R2-D2, but only because it seems kind of out there.

  1. SUPER BROS!

Damn Shane, you go for the hard questions. It is so hard for me to decide because bros come in so many forms. I think that as far as a decent broship for me right now is BBC John and Sherlock. I feel like the way that they interact with each other is the closest to being equal (in a weird/dangerous way). Its not that they are equal in all ways but I feel like emotionally they are necessary to each others existence.

HUGE P.S.! I take all of the above back. Well, kind of. I still think that is true but the BIGGEST broship I ship is Gimli and Legolas. Oh god just everything. The Romeo and Juliet aspect of it, the banter they have DURING BATTLES, the height difference, the growth of their friendship through a perilous journey, HOW LEGOLAS DEFENDS HIS BRO! Seriously, I love it so much. I only remembered after I took a sip from my Legolas/Gimli mug. ( http://society6.com/nautilusl2/hipster-legolas-and-gimli_mug#27=199 )

My favorite Bros are typically without pairing. In my mind they are too amazing to be brought down by other people. The epic list includes:
    Podrick Payne (Game of Thrones)
    Bronn (Game of Thrones)
    Samwell Tarly (Game of Thrones)
Samwise Gamgee (Lord of the Rings)
    Driss (The Intouchables)
    John Watson (Sherlock)
    Stiles Stilinski (Teen Wolf)
    Etc. Etc.

  2. I have to agree with Iris in that the way I typically approach any of my fandoms is through my biased love of one of the characters, usually a bro figure. Through them and their relationships, insights I can interact with a particular fandom on a deeper level. In case it's escaped most of you, all of those jokes Heather made over the semester about me hating people and generally not feeling anything for humanity weren't jokes. Thus, my love of my favorite character is a key aspect of my involvement in fandom. Yes, I have my own autonomous judgments and recriminations but it's only through my particular boo thang can I make sense of the canon and thus the fanon?

    John Watson (BBC Sherlock)
    Stiles Stilinski (Teen Wolf)
    Tyrion Lannister (Game of Thrones)
    Etc. Etc. Etc.
